Here's my thinking on a third party run by Amash or anyone else.
Imagine you're one of those moderate or suburban voters who has decided you can never support Trump. You've accepted that you'll vote for the Dem, but you won't like doing it. Trump loses. /1

Now add in an option that makes you feel good about not voting for Trump, but also relieves you of having to vote for a candidate who is too far left for you. You can vote but then later say "I kept my honor intact and my hands are clean." Anti-Trump vote splits. Trump wins. /2
The idea that a third party can take votes away from Trump assumes that the Trump vote isn't a cult and that their votes aren't set in stone. It is a dangerous assumption and almost certainly wrong. Don't split the anti-Trump vote. It's that simple. /3x
