The "pink wave" that was supposed to transform Europe has already crested.

Syriza is losing big in Greece today. His successor will be Kyriakos Mitsotakis, a Harvard-educated, center-right leader.

Elsewhere, Corbyn's Labour, Podemos, Melenchon, and Five Stars also on the ropes.
And something we can hopefully all agree on:

Early opinion polls show that this will be a terrible night for Golden Dawn, an openly neo-Nazi party. Very good news (even though the fact that they have any substantial support is of course sickening).
(Ugh, and by "his" I mean Alexis Tsipras, who I'd named in an earlier draft of the tweet, which I then amended for space reasons. When do we get our damn edit button?!)

Reasons why the comparisons between Marianne Williamson and Donald Trump are completely off.

1)
Trump was a genuine celebrity before entering politics. Williamson was known by a small number of aficionados.
2)
Trump was leading the GOP field with around 20% of the vote at this point in the primaries.

Williamson polls below 1%.

It doesn’t have to be like that. So here are my six rules for (panel) life.

1) Don’t Put More than Four People Onstage

I know you’re under pressure from marketing. I know you need to feature the sponsor. I know you don’t want to axe the one speaker with something to say.

But if you have over three panelists, there won't be a real conversation. Don’t.
2) Keep Introductions to a Minimum

Don't have someone introduce someone who introduces someone else. And never take more than 20 seconds for any single intro.

Much of the audience will already know who’s onstage. And everyone else can consult the program, or the internet.

A Tip for Writers:

Edits are painful. Even when they're good, it's tempting to quibble with every change.

That's why I now select "No Markup" when looking at edits. Instead of focussing on changes, it allows me to assess the flow of the new version.

Keeps my ego in check.
And yes, I guess it takes some, um, ego to give other other writers tips.

So let me put it this way: I've found this change in my working habits to be very helpful and productive, so wanted to share in case you do, too!
Also, re-reading my original tweet, I now realize there's a dangling modifier in the penultimate sentence.

1/In last week Trump has aggressively intervened in domestic UK and Israeli politics for causes, leaders sympathetic to him/global illiberal project. Affirmation that he sees these actions, their intervention in our politics on his behalf, as OK, a new norm. It's so dangerous.
2/His aggressive support for Brexit, for Bibi, raises legitimate questions about where Trump's loyalties lie. Is to the US, or to the illiberal far right global movement he and Putin lead together? No possible justification for US President to support Brexit, or campaign for it.
3/Trumpism is evoking a response in Europe and US. Two parties who gained the most - Liberals, Greens - can be seen as direct counters to RW/illiberalism. Center-right/far right lost seats in EP. In UK Leave declining, Liberals, Greens rising. ndn.org/blog/2019/05/e…

Short thread to summarize yesterday's remarkable election outcome in #Greece 1/
The size of SYRIZA defeat was underestimated by most surveys and exit polls. In the end, SYRIZA got 23.83% compared to New Democracy's 33.24%, a whopping 9.4 percentage point difference. It was this difference that forced Tsipras to call a snap election, expected for June 30th 2/
SYRIZA did even worse in the prefectural and municipal elections and will likely have very few elected local leaders 3/

Some fascist members of the extremists Greek "Golden Dawn" group beat up a journalist so hard on the head he started to bleed heavy from the riots today in #Athens in Greece. He was transported to the hospital.
#Update: Greek riot police also stood and take their ground on the steps of the Greek parliament building of in #Athens as Greek riots wanted to overtake the building for the #Macedonia name deal today.
#Update: Multiple riot police in #Athens were hurt by rocks been throw and had to be transported to the hospital today. As they were bombarded with paint and flour in their faces on the steps of the Greek parliament building.
