A thread on #MarcusFoundation and @HomeDepot, each store gets an allotted surplus each month for “lost, broken, stolen” inventory. Every dollar of that they don’t use they utilize for community projects. Along with this community investment, @HomeDepotFound has invested (cont)
Hundreds of millions of dollars to these project (most of which to make disabled veterans homes accessible). In 2012 I came home (to a house I personally mortgaged) in Georgetown, TX and my staff @BootCampaign was waiting on me in the driveway with @HomeDepotFound leaders
I’d spent year+ attempting to use the alloyed @DeptVetAffairs grant to make my house accessible to no avail, so @HomeDepotFound stepped in and got it done. They paid for it, did the work and the only “bragging”
They did was on their employee volunteers within their company
The following summer a low income neighborhood in Georgetown, Texas flooded. We heard about an elderly veteran couple (both disabled, one in a wheelchair, who’s home@had flooded. I made 3 calls: 1) @BootCampaign board 2) @HomeDepot and 3) @ChickfilA within a few hours we planned
And began executing a renovation. We replaced everything that had been damage, fed them and the volunteers, and even did some much needed yard work and finally an American flag at their request
What’s impressive about @HomeDepotFound is the lack of publicity surrounding their efforts. The same can be said for what #MarcusFoundation has done to support veterans struggling with PTSD, TBI and transitioning. With carful instruction from their founder, Bernie Marcus
The foundation has sought out and identified areas where veterans are in high need with a low amount of resourcing coming from @DeptVetAffairs they created the #MarcusInstituteForBrainHealth with Dr. Kelly who founded the DOD’s NICoE brain center at Walter Reed and are treating
Veterans and other brain injury victims such as CTE in hopes of finding preventative measures for our military and early markers to treat our veterans. They are helping fund @BCRforHeroes revolutionary #WarriorPATHH program designed to help veterans find Post Traumatic Growth
And healing after traumatic service experiences through various techniques not often found in a VA facility. They are also helping orgs like @Tunnel2Towers build and provide mortgage free homes to severely wounded and gold star families of military and first responders.
These people, organizations and entities have proven their dedication to better our communities, supporting our wounded heroes and making this country a better place. If #BoycottHomeDepot is as good of an attack on a man’s personal politics you can come up with, you’re losing
