Today's big story on Russian interference out of Italy also connects back to Trump, through none other than Steve Bannon.
Once he left the White House, Bannon made a mission of cultivating far-right movements around Europe. One of his big projects: Matteo Salvini, the Italian politician all that Russian money was going to support. nytimes.com/2019/05/18/opi…
But there's more than that. One of the Italian operatives in the room negotiating the deal was one of Salvini's former top aides, Gianluca Savoini, who's got his own ties to Bannon.

In 2014, Savoini helped start a pro-Russia organization called the Lombardy-Russia Cultural Association. His co-founder: Andrey Komov, who's also part of an organization working with Bannon to build "a university for alt-right politicians" in Rome.
