1/ My S.O. just left for 10 minutes, worried. I'm an EB-1A permanent visa holder. It doesn't matter: I can be legal - the ICE is not. They are, for all intents and purposes, a "State terrorist organization".
2/ He came back and pointed out: "our neighborhood is disturbingly quiet". We live in a Hispanic area. Many neighbors have young kids. They can't play outside. I never go anywhere without a small folder full of documents.
3/ I'm not a refugee. When I submitted my petition, trump was not in power. Although American academia has always been xenophobic, I have always enjoyed the respect that gave me that visa. Not anymore.
4/ Even ridiculous Fly-over-state universities consider our Ph.D.'s "not accredited" in spite of the fact that there are only 5 universities in all this huge area (many thousands of universities) that rank higher than my alma mater.
5/ Yesterday I had another flare-up of my hip injury. These injuries were acquired because I was attacked by a psychopathic devangelical at a gym and since the law of silence prevails, I can't sue anyone. I can't go to an ER when the pain gets beyond bearable.
6/ None of them will treat the pain. None. There is no physician in the area that will risk their license to prescribe a true pain killer because it has been demonized by the Triad-bribed politicians. Now lay people think opioids are a threat. They are just MEDICATION.
7/ The true crisis is completely different than lay people think by reading news.

8/ My advice is: if you are not a refugee, do NOT come to the USA. Once you immigrate, it's much harder to go back home. Again: if "home" is not a war zone, stay there. If it is and you have the opportunity to seek asylum elsewhere, AVOID THE USA.
9/ You will be hunted, possibly charged with crimes you have not committed, a huge minority of white ignorant Americans will use any opportunity to hurt you and if you are over-qualified you will probably be unemployed. I know, it used to be different.
10/ You will live in fear and even your liberal American friends are potentially dangerous to you. You won't be able to trust anyone. You may have health insurance but you will NOT have health care. Most American physicians are poorly trained.
11/ Liberal American intellectuals will look down on you and, with a patronizing smile, try to teach you the history of your country. There is nothing you can do about it: we are the periphery.
