I’ve been critical — that’s a good word for it, I guess: sober, restrained, technically accurate — of @SpeakerPelosi this year, mainly over impeachment. But she’s doing exactly the right thing backing the @RepMalinowski Resolution @AndrewDesiderio posts here.
Malinowski, an immigrant himself (from Poland), is a good sponsor. But the main thing is forcing House Republicans to line up behind every vile thing Trump says by voting against a Resolution condemning him. (Politically speaking, this is also the point of impeachment.)
Trump has seen a way to appeal to his white-right fans, divide Washington Democrats now feuding over policy & personalities, and distract public attention from Epstein, Mueller and a looming crisis over the debt limit, all at once — by beating up on dark-skinned immigrant women.
Looking the other way from that and voting to support it, though, are two different things. The @RepMalinowski resolution forces House Republicans to declare themselves on the side of Trump and the white-right racists, or opposed to them.
Good profile, by the way, of Malinowski — a freshman New Jersey Congressman with a background in human rights and the Obama State Department — by @AndrewDesiderio from last spring: politico.com/magazine/story…
