I’m not a little bit stunned by the celebrations regarding Apollo 11 50 years ago. 1
I understand celebrating a 50-year-old battle won or a natural disaster overcome. But scientific achievement is not about single events. Rather it is about building and growing and furthering. 2
It seems to my non-rocket-scientist brain that the Apollo program was a high water mark in the USA’s space program. We have been coasting on it ever since. I would rather celebrate greater achievements in the present than those in the past. 3
Am I wrong? Please, I hope I’m wrong. 4

I’m heading home to California today from Denmark. Long plane flight. Sad face. 1
I’ve been in Denmark for two weeks. I’ve been in Aarhus, Ebeltoft, Copenhagen, and the green countryside. I realized this morning that the one thing I have not set eyes on at all this trip was a police officer. Not one. 2
There’s a lot of things that I don’t like about Denmark, and I don’t think that I would want to live here, but the USA has a lot to learn from this very well run country. 3

So many subtle but striking cultural differences in Denmark compared to US. Probably biggest is the pervasive presence and support for families. 1
And not the hypocritical bullshit of “family values” but genuine integration of kids and parents and everything they might need anywhere and everywhere. 2
And substantive state support of families with paid maternity AND paternity leave, child care, higher education, parks, libraries, etc. 3

This is the sum total of a state-of-the-art induction cooktop’s user interface and its operational apparatus: uniform matte black uselessness. You can’t tell where the burners are because they don’t get hot, let alone light up, or have a line drawn around them. Pathetic.
If the stove top was smart enough to know where the pan was, it could dynamically move the heat so it was always under it no matter where it was, except that then you would just have one big burner and managing two pots at different temps would be problematic.
Or maybe you could just have smart pots and pans.. Set the desired temp for each, and then the cook top figures out where they are and what they want.

OK, this made me tear up. About 9 years ago (April 2010), my plume research made me realize we have to get NASA to publish guidelines to protect the #Apollo sites. I invited John Guidi of NASA HQ to fly with me in reduced gravity and we chatted it up during the flight. /1
2/ Here's a picture of John (left) and me (right) in one of the reduced gravity flights that week. The plane was giving us lunar gravity and we were studying how jets of gas blow lunar soil in those conditions. After the flight we went to a taco place in Houston...
3/...and I said we should write voluntary guidelines because time was of the essence and there wasn't enough time to make actual laws or regulations to protect the sites, and we were facing problems & roadblocks in potentially going to the United Nations. John said "let's do it!"

Something that I don't think most people really get is that we've never really seen abortion laws this draconian in the history of the United States, even pre-"Roe v. Wade." slate.com/news-and-polit…
Women who either induce their own abortions via drugs (or presumably some other method) or by seeking medical aid potentially face life in prison, even the death penalty.

That's new.
Abortion (in its more or less modern form) has been around since the mid-19th century. There have been laws to regulate it for about as long.

Until the 1930s, the state really only prosecuted doctors for providing abortions, and even then only if the women was killed.

And I think it's smart to warn against consuming gratuitoo black trauma for glorification's sake.

But that's not what this show is *about* just because it CONTAINS it.
It's an opportunity, first and foremost, for the survivors to be heard and for us to bear witness.

These two things are of Paramount importance. For the Black community, all our Black cultures and the world at Large.

When I first started doing rope over 4 years ago, I was a decidedly un-athletic person. I had no core strength to speak of and had no particular desire or motivation to work out. Which is all perfectly fine because no one's worth is determined by how physically fit they are.
My journey is by no means representative of everyone else's journey or path.

But I am grateful for rope bondage and how it has helped me connect more deeply with my body, allowing me to harness my strength in ways I would have never before thought possible (or even desirable?).

207. UCHE DIKE was an odd ball with a mild distasteful sense of fashion when he first gained admission into Nnamdi Azikiwe university in Anambra State, Nigeria.

Uche was one of those students in school who occasionally wore bogus long sleeved shirts...
