On the 50th anniversary of Moon landing, it is interesting to note that an overwhelming majority of Russians believe in hoax conspiracy theories, no matter how kooky, rather than admitting that Americans actually landed there. National pride can be an ugly, ugly thing.
According to a poll done last week by Russian state pollster VTsIOM, 57% of Russians believe the landing was faked. Only 24% believe the Americans actually went to the Moon.
Soviet cosmonaut Leonov said he watched Americans land & was extremely happy when Armstrong took the 1st step. Most Russians don't believe him, however. Pseudo-scientific "proofs" of the landing's being a fake are extremely popular, especially the fake Stanley Kubrick "interview"

I am at an Orioles game, and there are like 100 Australian boy scouts here, and they are amazing. I want to live tweet our interactions, but it's so damn hot.
They are here for the big jamboree and they've all bought a ton of MAGA merchandise, because Trump is treated in Australia as a huge joke, and they think it's hilarious.

I have translated Panarin's interview to a Russian Youtube channel, where he rips Putin to shreds. It's absolutely magnificent. Nothing like this has ever been said by a Russian athlete, ever. Please, read this. The Breadman is an absolute monster.

People are asking what might happen to Panarin now. I honestly have no idea and nobody in Russia does either. This has never happened before. Putin could always count on jocks to have his back.
I am not sure even he knows how to proceed. Or if to proceed in any way.
For those interested, the interview was actually recorded a month ago, but Panarin is STILL in Russia. The kid is obviously fresh out of crap to give.
So, yes, Gotham, who needs Batman when you have Breadman.

UPDATE: I am also blocked in China, though the reason for it escapes me entirely. Other than being a huge fan of Jackie Chan and covering the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, my connections to China are very tenuous, at best.

Conspiracy theories are dangerous for many reasons. Among other things, they provide a way to reduce mental distress by changing our perception of a problem without actually doing anything to solve the problem. They're the mental equivalent of a pacifier.

Spreading conspiracy theories about Trump using hidden codes to signal that he's closing in on a secret plan to break up child trafficking rings isn't just absurd — it's harmful. It lulls people into complacency & lets them feel like they're helping when they're doing nothing.

Conspiracy theories also lead to a dangerous cycle of scapegoating because the regressive logic of conspiratorial thinking can only be maintained by implicating an ever-expanding group of "conspirators" involved in the conspiracy and/or the "cover-up".
