Shots are great. They sometimes lead to goals. ⚽️
But which players averaged the best scoring opportunities (xG per shot) over the 18/19 season - excluding penalties?

Average xG per shot isn't necessarily a measure of who is best FPL-wise.
Other factors to consider are finishing skill and volume of shots taken - but what is does show us is which players tend to get good chances on a regular basis. Across which playing positions.

Across all positions, it isn't a surprise to see forwards regularly getting the best chances to score - that is essentially what they are paid to do.
However, FPL managers should to be mindful of the extra point players classified as midfielders get for scoring a goal.

Amongst the forwards, Jesus, Auba, Vardy, Lukaku, Barnes (!) and Wilson (not King) were the very best at getting themselves into good goal-scoring positions.

Sterling and Mane undisputed kings of the decent chance from midfield.
Salah more reliant on quantity over quality of chances.
Some great potential value in Martial, Brooks, Moura and Doucoure (!).
Son fairs lower - but is known for exceeding his xG significantly.

Only VVD got into goal-scoring positions above the 0.1 threshold (which is very impressive in itself). If he gets more chances from TAA crosses in 19/20, he should do very well indeed.

Notable others that didn't make the 0.1 threshold.
Some missed out by a whisker - others may be looking to assists and penalties for the majority of their FPL points.

This is just one insight that xG data provides us and should be viewed alongside numerous other factors including volume of shots, finishing skill etc.
But hopefully it provides some food for thought over the last few weeks of pre-season..... 👍
