Food stamps... FOOD STAMPS.

I had friends growing up who were dependent upon food stamps to survive. Children...

These help 13% of the population in America. The vast majority of those are children and the elderly, or have disabilities, and 44% of recipients work full time.
We generally did not have sleepovers at Detrick’s house because his mom could not afford snacks for us. But once his mom worked an extra shift so she could buy us all pizza for Dungeons & Dragons night. She was so proud to have his friends over. I’ll never forget her hospitality.
The average American making ~$50k/yr pays about $40/yr towards food stamps and about $8/yr for other social safety net programs in America.

$58/yr so people can have some benefits. And Trump wants to cut this. From children. From parents already struggling trying to provide.
The amazing thing about food stamps is that they provide immediate relief to families, but also drive the economy with a return on investment of $1.70 for every dollar spent. Where do you think the food for food stamps comes from? People who make food. That churns the economy.
What ~ overhead? Most people don’t understand how efficient federal programs are at administering tax dollars. SNAP programs spend over 92% of tax $ on food. 7% on state admin costs and 0.4% for federal admin.

Most charities would be a lot more charitable w/overhead like that.
The Congressional Budget Office determined that SNAP has one of the largest ROIs among benefit programs for stimulating economic growth and creating jobs, even in weak economies.

But most importantly, it is a humane and compassionate program. It makes us better as a society.
