At Senate Judiciary hearing, FBI Director Chris Wray says no country poses greater counterintelligence threat than China. Russia, he says, is No. 2. He says FBI has 1000+ open investigations on attempted intellectual property theft "almost all leading back to China."
Wray, on AG Barr's review of the Russia investigation, "I think that’s part of his job -- it’s part of mine -- to get those questions answered."
In response to a question about bias in FBI workforce, Wray notes he has turned over essentially the entire top leadership team, implemented new policies and had a day long training for senior executives stressing importance of objectivity & the "appearance of objectivity"
Wray says that in first three quarters of this fiscal year, FBI has made about 100 domestic terrorism arrests. That, he says, is more than last year. Majority of the suspects are motivated by some version of white supremacy, he says.
Wray says the FBI is "all over this," and cites a number of cases where they've made significant arrests. "Needless to say we take domestic terrorism or hate crime, regardless of ideology, extremely seriously," he says.
Wray says FBI has "completed a significant internal investigation" of failure to act on tip before Parkland shooting and made changes. Background: washingtonpost.com/news/post-nati…
Wray, on whether he has read the Mueller report: "I’ve reviewed it. I wouldn’t say I’ve read every single word."
As the astute @MLevineReports predicted earlier (), it seems Wray misspoke about white supremacy data. FBI spokeswoman says it's not a “majority of the domestic terrorism cases" that involve white supremacy, but a majority of race-related DT cases that do
That's still a lot. Probably hundreds of investigations/suspects. The FBI spokeswoman, upon request, also provided more specific arrest data: 90 domestic terrorism arrests through third quarter of fiscal '19, and 100 international terrorism arrests.
