Can Boris reset the special relationship and secure more wins from Trump than May?

I’ve taken a look in this piece. A three-point summary below...

1/ It’s clear that through a combination of charisma, flattery and celebrity Boris has struck up good relations with Team Trump.

Being considered a ‘friend’ by a president who famously sees diplomacy through the prism of personal relations is an advantage.
2/ But converting warm relations into policy victories is something quite different. Macron and Xi are cautionary tales in this regard.

UK miles apart from US on Iran, tariffs, climate change, Syria/Afghan. Can Boris nudge Trump in his direction? If not, then what?
3/ Running through the coming months will be a tension from competing demands.

Calling out Trump when he steps out of line (cheered on by a sceptical UK public) vs not offending a president notoriously thin-skinned.

Boris’s success in walking that line will be critical.
