Some Brexiteers will be pleased about Cummings - strong sign of commitment to Oct 31 date - others less so - a lot of v angry water under the bridge btw him and ERG as he kept many of them away from Vote Leave
Cummings calculation was old fashioned Tory eurosceptics has not a chance of winning the referendum and there were v bitter fights about keeping them away
One senior tory says of him this morn - ‘The silver lining to Corbyn becoming PM is that presumably self-pitying blogposts will be rationed’.

Johnson govt to hold Queen's speech on 14th October, will be confirmed by privy council at Balmoral today - No 10 says it's all biz as usual for a new govt, but has useful political side effect that denies MPs time to try to stop no deal
Parliament likely to meet therefore from next Monday until around the 11th of September - understand Downing St thinks they have some legal protection from court cases if they are suspending Parliament to come back with a Queen's Speech - there is going to be HUGE row
I understand only a tiny handful of Cabinet ministers knew about this move, they were going to be briefed after the privy council later

And 1st big choice? What to do about Jeremy Hunt this morning, understand situation still not resolved-Johnson resolute Hunt should not stay as Foreign Sec, Hunt equally determined not to accept a demotion-understand he wants to stay, or would accept Home Sec, No 11, or Deputy PM
This is a risky business this morning - Johnson wants to unite the party, and forcing Hunt out would be a bad move on that front, but giving him to his refusal to budge is challenge to his authority... not even 9am, not even in Number 10 and big and difficult decision to make

1. So that was the warmup, tomorrow is Johnson’s first actual day in Downing Street - first big job is to introduce himself to the country as Prime Minister - how will he pitch it at the podium?
2. Then recruit Cabinet - promising record number of women and ethnic minority ministers at the top table
3. As ever, it’s a risky jigsaw - can’t be resolved until Hunt’s position is - 2 men still talking, Foreign Sec doesn’t want demotion, would be happy to stay where he is - sources don’t deny he was offered Defence Sec and said no

Now, where was I? Oh yes, threads earlier talking about v likely #Corbyn #Labour government that failure of MV3 has created. I warn you that I've been to a Bottomless Brunch of Prosecco with some of my cousins, but short thread follows.
Let's start here: even in their best case scenario, #Labour is likely to be in a minority. Evidence is legion that they are going to catch an absolute *tonking* in Scotland, and I'd be surprised if they had held more than one seat there as things stand.
In that situation, LDs, SNP, Green, Plaid will try to hold them to another #EUref. Given c.25-35 Labour rebels, they will need a combined majority of 50-70 to avoid tearing themselves apart over this. That's the first step.

1/ Crypto Narrative Watchlist: Token Buybacks. I’ve noticed an uptick in chatter about the idea of token projects buying back tokens. Some examples:
2/ This thread really super charged the discussion, and basically contains every aspect of it - from people who argue for it as a way to show confidence & reward holders to those re-articulating the belief that tokens are worthless.
3/ @brucefenton argues that the financial incentives to *not* buy back tokens are too strong in a down market for it to be plausible.

Ever notice how the national discourse about generations always contains a tacit presumption that older generations are rightful gatekeepers of power, knowledge, experience, and resources, and anything the younger generations receive is a gift?
Millenials have decades more skin in the current game than the sixty and seventy year olds that litter the halls of power.

We should be electing *mostly* millennials.
And not just millennials.

I think it's ridiculous that 12 year olds can't vote and 90 year olds can.

I'm not saying strip the vote from 90 year olds. But man, I wish people who weren't going to be around much longer didn't vote as if they weren't going to be around much longer.
