Would removing the backstop be worse for EU unity than no deal?

Every indication from the EU 27 says yes.

If you don't buy this, you are willing to gamble that these signals are false and you understand the EU's true interests better than most. 1/
On the other hand, if you think the EU 27 and all its players would largely prefer no deal than to remove the backstop, a strategy that threatens no deal if they don't will fail.

That would mean if the PM wants a deal, he will have to ask for something less. 2/
I have not seen any compelling evidence that the EU, or its major players consider the risk of no deal to be worse for the integrity of the EU than selling ROI out.

You could argue thats because the EU never found the threat credible. We'll see if PM's threat changes this. ends
