Not at all. I keep trying to tell y'all how deep the whitewashing of history is. One of the big privileges of Whiteness is the luxury to ignore uncomfortable reality.
I was thinking about the Reagan thing though. I wonder if a better question we should be asking white people right now is "do you think Ronald Reagan was racist in his heart?" It's the framing they love to use and it doesn't get much more clear than this.
Because that then leads directly to other questions.

"What impact do you think it had to have an undeniably racist president back then?"

"How should we address the fact that the president was actively racist for decades and white people loved him?"
"What policies are called into question knowing that the president was actively racist for decades?"

"Should we be trying to take steps to prevent actively racist people from becoming president?"
