A better alternative to "progress studies"

While I appreciate the importance of understanding & facilitating progress, I was underwhelmed by this proposal for a new scientific discipline.

I'd like to propose a better alternative....

#innovation #science #education

A while back, I put together a sampling of big challenges we face & a way to measure magnitude. ideafaktory.com/unbreaking-ame…

But BIG problems demand big innovative solutions.

Unfortunately, the capabilities we need are scattered across disciplines & institutions.

What I propose is a global, cross-disciplinary strikeforce for each problem we face.

This model would truly meld purpose, education & action into a cohesive whole.

It would eliminate the need for yet another scientific discipline, while truly accelerating human progress.

Here's how ProgressStrikeForce (#PSF) might work:

1) Start with a globally prioritized set of goals (@BjornLomborg's efforts might be a good start)

2) Top global institutions (corporations, government & academia) would nominate 10-20 top people for a 2 year commitment.

4/7
3) Commitments would be ~25% of their time with a centralized expense pool. (I'll spare details here)

4) Each problem would have at least one top member from disciplines like biology, economics, physics, business, etc.

5/7
5) Students from various universities would commit to work for each #PSF full time.

6) Members would serve 1-2 year terms on each PSF before transitioning work to the next nominee. Important to keep the thinking fresh.

6/7
6) All participants (leaders & students) get fractional interest in generated IP.

7) IP ownership structure & uses for public good, TBD. (These models already exist w/universities & govt research programs.)

I welcome constructive input.
