We repeated this analysis with the Twitter activity surrounding the El Paso mass shooting earlier today (search terms were "El Paso", #ElPaso, "Cielo Vista", and #CieloVista.)

cc: @ZellaQuixote
@ZellaQuixote As with the Gilroy shooting, folks tweeted a lot of claims without regard for the absence of evidence.

- multiple shooters
- multiple locations
- attribution of political motive (antifa, white supremacy, etc.)
- speculation that the attack might be a #FalseFlag
@ZellaQuixote A manifesto supposedly written by the shooter surfaced not longer after news of the attack broke. The content of the manifesto supports the claim of white supremacy/white nationalist as a motive, although the speculation to that end began over 40 minutes earlier.
@ZellaQuixote Consistent with but not directly supported by available evidence (and thus still speculative at the time of this writing) - the claim that the shooter is a Trump supporter.
@ZellaQuixote Not even remotely supported by any evidence: the claim the shooter is #antifa. This rumor spread more quickly and earlier than the white supremacy claims, with the reliably unreliable @JackPosobiec playing a prominent role in its spread.
