We still tend to think fascism in its physical manifestation will take the form of mass organized brownshirts. But this is a mistake. A brief thread.
Fascist violence in the 1920s was typically organized around the proverbial “brownshirts.”
Fascist organizations reflected the mode of military organization then of the era of Fordist mass production: top-down, command-and-control, temporally synchronized forms of warfare mirrored the top-down command-and-control, temporally synchronized mode of industrial production.
Today, however, we live in a world where industrial production is flexible, design-oriented, and based on individual gigs—and the mode of neo-fascist violence is the same.
@johnrobb needs to do a new edition OF BRAVE NEW WAR
The argument Fox is promoting here on June 10 is exactly the same as the one in the El Paso shooter’s manifesto: that the browns are looking to “replace” the whites. This is what information operations look like in a postmodern civil war. mediamatters.org/tucker-carlson…
Neo-fascist violence will not be mass produced and centralized; it will use flexible and just-in-tine production, with people operating on a gig basis. It won’t be about subsuming oneself in the mass, but about acquiring individual notoriety.
