I understand the practical arguments against kicking a site like 8chan off of Cloudflare: they'll just go to other protection services and if that fails they'll move to a whole new site. Sure. I'll buy that.

Doesn't mean it's pointless. That wastes their time, dilutes their pull
Time they spend fighting to keep their server up is time they're wasting. Server downtime is time when their users, particularly the more casual ones who aren't yet radicalized and fully dependent on the site for validation, might drift away to other parts of the web.
As long as the site exists as a stable platform with a known address, it'll get a steady flow of new blood from people who want to see what all the fuss is about. It's as easy as typing in a URL.
When a site like that gets kicked off DNS, they distribute the IPS address to connect to it instead, and laugh about how the normies think they've been knocked off the internet when really we just kicked over the road signs.

But those signposts help new people find them.
The reason that an anon imageboard works as a recruitment site is because it's just so incredibly casual. You don't have to sign up for anything. You don't have to go looking for it. You just go to it and dive right in.

Anything that makes it less seamless is good.
