According to ministry of foreign affairs website, there is marriage visa and widow visa granted to a foreigner getting married to a Maldivian. Widow visa is granted to the foreign ladies who get married to Maldivian men ONLY!
This means the foreign men getting married to maldivian ladies cannot get widow visa! Which means if the father want to stay with the kids, he should take the ‘maldivian kids’ out of their own country or LEAVE the kids here in maldives and leave the damn country!
And this widow visa is given till the kids are 18 years of age as well 😐
The silly part is, the foreign widowed lady who gets this type of visa is NOT allowed to work! Now tell me how will she finance the family if she is to be left alone with the kids only?
The website also says that even though the foreign men who are left with their kids don’t get widow visa, they get a special visa which allows them to stay with their kids for just 1 year and again NOT allowed to work! 🙂
Meaning it’s just one year the father gets to spend with his kid/ kids and that’s all he can get with his kids? If not, he must go back to his country with this ‘maldivian’ kids!
Now let’s move to marriage visa. For this, the marriage should ofc be registered. EXPENSIVE health checkups should be done! That too every year!
Some may say allied insurance can help us out with the experiences? No! Why? Because to seek this service you need to be admitted in the hospital! But to be admitted, so many health check ups and tests should be done which is COSTLY again!!!
This ‘married to maldivian visa’ is provided after PAYING for it yearly! Not to mention, collection of so many documents from different institutions!
And at the end of the day, it is us MALDIVIAN middle class families that need to deal with this burden!
