Many Republicans are trying to minimize the El Paso murders as the work of a lone wolf w/ mental health problems. As historian @kathleen_belew argues here, that obscures the long history that produced this violence. We can't simply wish that history away. nytimes.com/2019/08/04/opi…
@kathleen_belew Here's a thread from April (in the wake of the NZ and SD right wing shootings) discussing the seemingly innocuous euphemisms these terrorists use to explain their actions and inspire others to join the cause.
@kathleen_belew "Playing plausibly deniable footsie with racial terrorists" is what the Trumpist GOP has been doing since 2016. They all know that. And now that the chickens are coming home to roost in droves and in deadly ways, most remain silent. Shameful.
