A week or so on from this thread. Time for a quick update. Negotiations with the EU are not progressing. The tone has already changed. 1/
Johnson is now in full no deal mode. There is endless speculation about whether he can be stopped. It is possible; but perhaps only via a VoNC, and only if another MP can command the confidence of the House. 2/
That person could then ask for an extension, and set a pre-Brexit GE. Johnson is already playing the people v Parliament card. 3/
Those opposed to Johnson should realise the size of the task ahead; and there are too many signs that they do not. 4/
They need to win a VoNC. They need to coalesce around a new PM. That’s the easy bit. They then need to work out how to win a GE (or at least how to deny Johnson a majority). 5/
Johnson is gearing up for a GE. He will be ready when he’s ‘forced’ to seek a new mandate. At the moment, those opposing him give no sign of being able to campaign effectively against him. That has to change. 6/6
