So, I like to think that "Agile" means "conforms rather well to the values and principles of the manifesto" and "Scrum" means "the team's approach is consistent with the Scrum Guide".

"Scrum" would include real product ownership in the team, and delivery of a shippable increment, and other such.

A team might not be all the way there, but they'd be visibly on the path.

Another view of "Agile" and "Scrum" is that they are just ways for management to put more pressure on development, that they are draconian, and harmful. Some say Agile and Scrum are driven by certification and the coaching business, not by decent values and knowledge.

Now those bad things to happen in the name of "Agile" and "Scrum" (and all the other "Agile" approaches, I reckon).

So I am torn about the terms and what to do about them.

I believe that language is usage: words mean what living people mean them to mean. So "Agile" and "Scrum" etc, are coming to mean those bad things.

Of course I think this is tragic.

But what to do? Drop the terms? Just talk more generally about how to do things?

Maybe.
