Many of you responding to earlier threads aren't understanding the central argument re: gun voters.
There is no upside for Trump & GOP. Persuadable voters who support "common sense" gun control do not vote on gun control.
Voters who do vote on gun control, vote to oppose it.

In other words, Trump and the GOP will win over NO ONE by moving forward on these gun control measures.
They will however betray core groups, activists and base voters who will stay home in large enough numbers for it to result in a net loss.
They can't afford any net losses.

Only Trump can break the bond with these core groups, and there are millions of gun rights voters whom he needs -- for whom the Second Amendment is the Single Most Important Issue -- and they will see this as a betrayal.

@realDonaldTrump @NRA As with ObamaCare pre-2018, politicians simply cannot break core promises like this and not expect to be punished.

@realDonaldTrump @NRA @senatemajldr It's also worth noting that gun control support is soft and tied to news cycles. Voters targeted for appeasement will lose interest in a month, and find another issue to pin to the top of the list.
