I haven’t heard of real, non-anecdotal crime spikes where prog DAs have won.

And it’s clearly down in Trump’s no-longer-favorite-whipping-city, Chicago: theappeal.org/in-chicago-ret…

There’s not a lot of data yet (haven’t had prog DAs for too long), but early #s seem promising.
To be fair, Barr’s troglodyte comments are unsurprising and to be expected. The “opposition” is always at work in every “phase”: tough-on-crime kept lobbying during the Progressive era, and progressives weren’t silent in the 1980s.

What concerns me is if the mainstream falters:
Like this hot mess of a WaPo editorial, expressing dismay at letting ppl petition for resentencing after “only” 15 years:

The Barrs of the world will alway be like Barr: cruel and indifferent to data. But if the mainstream media stumbles along, well….
Actually, reading Barr’s comments more clearly, he’s simply attacking Rachel Rollins without the courage to name her.

And he’s attacking her—at a speech before the Fraternal Order of Police—bc of her stated policy not to prosecute cases where the only charge is resisting arrest.
Barr’s entire speech is just reconfirming police grievances that they have lost popular respect.

To start, this isn’t even necessarily true, at least on average, per Gallup: news.gallup.com/poll/213869/co…
But it also refuses to grapple with WHY some people are pushing back against the police today.

The day after @theintercept released a broad report on testilying by CBP/ICE (theintercept.com/2019/08/11/bor…), worth asking WHY Rollins is wary of stand-alone resisting arrest cases.
@theintercept Anyway, it’s the usual “few bad apples” (does ANYONE ever finish that phrase? “a few bad apples…” do what now?) refusal to grapple with structural issues.

Which, again, is entirely to be expected from Barr.
