100 days: join my media chat at 6pm today on BCOS TV, where I will respond to questions about governance issues in Oyo State. The media chat will be broadcast live and streamed via
bcosgsmlive.org
On school age children hawking: there is an existing law which makes basic education mandatory. According to the law, parents of these children should be jailed. However, we recognise that poverty causes this and this makes it difficult to enforce.
Instead, what we are doing is making sure that basic education is free, which is why we cancelled fees and levies. We are working with the World Bank and the FG through a programme called Better Education Service Delivery For All (BESDA) to attract these children back to school.
When we've done all we can to assist and see that parents are still putting their economic interests over those of their children, then we will enforce the law. I appeal to parents to cooperate and send these children to school.
On job creation for youths: The youths are central to our plans, Oyo State has a significant advantage compared to other states because of our fertile land mass. As an engineer, I'm a planner, we have to lay foundation for this, we've started...
2 weeks ago, we launched a partnership with agritech company, Farmcrowdy to work with our farmers, 50, 000 farmers will benefit. Our farm settlements will be turned into farm estates, not only for farmers, we will have factory for processing, schools etc.
We've seen improvement already with youths approaching us that they want to quit drugs etc. If we don't do the right thing for our youths, we can conclude this government is a failure.
The youths are important; they are our main focus.
On education-improving WAEC performance and ability to read and write; I brought a book with me, it's a solution to past WAEC and WASC question papers. When I was in school, we used to search for past question papers.
We've compiled this book, the first ever in Oyo State. There is also another one for teachers to assist in teaching WASC exam; all these are free for all students and teachers.
Extra lessons will be provided for all students.
Extra lessons:
From 2:30-4:30 Monday - Friday
9-1 on Saturday
I implore all parents to allow their children to attend these extra lessons.
On LAUTECH: Yesterday, the governing council came to see me and we discussed all these. We've signed for worker payments but since it's owned by both Osun and Oyo states, unfortunately Osun state has not paid.
This can not continue.
Few days ago, I spoke to the Osun governor, Gboyega Oyetola, the plan to split was signed between Akala and Oyinlola but we don't know why it wasn't implemented.
Oyo State will have to pay the salary of LAUTECH (Osun's share) because I don't want the students to suffer.
If we have to split up, then so be it, I won't shy away from this divorce. LAUTECH is very important to Ogbomoso.

On the issue of BCOS not working in Iwelere: I have travelled on Iwelere road. I noticed that some of the roads are not good. We have plans that all over Oyo State, BCOS will be broadcast everywhere.
Good governance transcends politics, any contractor that has been paid for any project will have to finish the work, so that we can have value for people of Oyo State. Like the silo project, despite spending N1 billion, I was not impressed with what I saw.
We sat down with the contractor and he said he needed N350M to complete it. We gave the N350M to complete the project and he promised to finish in 4 months. I can tell you, he has resumed work. We will complete good projects commenced by any admin. It's all for our people.
We revoked the Saki-Iseyin road contract and are in the process of awarding to more competent contractor. You may have noticed that we just approved a new budget a few days ago. Only about N70B income has been realised in Oyo state so we reduced the budget to more realistic one.
If you look at our Roadmap for Accelerated Development, we've started implementing it
Four key things:
Education is crucial, & once we look after Healthcare , this will make us productive & the economy will be buoyant. If we expand our economy and improve it, IGR will increase.
But all these cannot be achieved in an unsafe environment, so that is why security, the fourth pillar is important.
On LGA: We are working on LGA, between now and 1.5 weeks, we will appoint people to OYISEC and we will conduct elections as promised.
On security: A secure and safe environment for us is something we cannot compromise. Investors/investment, foreign money does not operate in an environment where they don’t feel secure. The security vehicles are being delivered and will be seen in a matter of days.
Good governance is beyond razzmattaz. I rejected a proposal to paint the secretariat. It may look good to outsiders but internally, the furniture is bad, the toilets are bad and e-governance is an issue. I would rather do a proper job.
During electioneering, I said I would scrap CCTV cameras but after getting into govt, we changed our minds as scrapping it will be a disservice to the people of Oyo State since the money has already been spent. Rather, we will enhance it so it can be useful to combat criminality.
I declared my assets because I want to be held accountable. What we met on ground is a situation where a project for which money is allocated, gets only about 10% of the total funds for execution.
Because as we were told, 50% goes back to the Governor, 30% to the appointee who allocated the project out of which 10% goes to the Governor’s wife. I have told them anyone who does that now will be brought to book.
This is a very serious problem. That is why the second bill we sent to the House of Assembly was the Oyo State Financial Crimes Commission Bill and once they pass it, I will sign it and and we will all operate under it.
On sustainable development goals: Reducing maternal and infant mortality.
Some of the statistics might be right or wrong, but the truth is our primary health centres are just shells without the necessary facilities.
If I go there and ask about budgeting, doctor/patient ratio, number of people visiting the clinics etc. The record-keeping is appalling; we are starting from the basics, we will go to demand valid data to know what is available or not and budget accordingly.
The commissioner health was selected because of his pedigree in the health field, so we are in good hands.
Radiography equipment has been delivered to Adeoyo, and I'll commission it tomorrow. Our feedback mechanism will be reliable.
Law school student bursary: moving forward, they will placed under scholarship and bursary board. We are sorry that some people missed out. That is why we split up the ministry of finance and budget to avoid this kind of incident in the future.
Sports: their N60M/N68M (budget) has been reduced by 40% because the main budget has been reduced. Because of our youthful commissioner, Seun Fakorede, all the issues on sports will be dealt with in a timely manner.
On Polytechnic: we may or may not reduce their school fees. The problem is lack of accountability, we demanded they start keeping proper records. We need to know their income. If their expenditure can sustain fees reduction, we'll do it but please be patient, it will take time.
To my people at home, quarterly I promise to report to you on government's progress.

Any hitches we had today will be corrected, and we may even change the style to encourage dialogue. Thank you for your support, thank you so much.
