Here’s why this matters. Republicans have proposed a bill that would declare Antifa (which is not even an official “organization” per se) a domestic terrorist organization. The Iron Front logo is an anti-fascist symbol that’s been associated with Antifa.
When the MLS declares an 80+ year old anti fascist symbol “political,” they are, intentionally or not, lending credence to the right wing narrative about contemporary politics. The Iron Front flag, like the rainbow flag, articulates a set of ideals that should be uncontroversial.
