A quick reminder of what the Protocol on Ireland/NI says:

Article 15(4) provides for the automatic application of 'amendments' or 'replacements' to those EU acts - 'a small fraction of EU Single Market rules' according to UK government - applicable to Northern Ireland and set out in the Annexes to the Protocol.
Where a 'new' EU act is concerned, the UK and the EU in the Joint Committee must agree to apply it to Northern Ireland.

How the UK determines its position is for the UK to decide.

Which brings us to the May government's 'commitments to Northern Ireland' in January 2019...
Here the UK government stated it would "legislate in
domestic law to ensure that a UK Minister will be required to seek agreement of the NI Assembly before reaching any agreement in the UK-EU Joint Committee to add additional alignment provisions to the scope of the Protocol"

According to text ‘agreed at negotiators' level’ and ‘only… subject to technical legal revisions’, the backstop and other provisions in the Protocol on Ireland/Northern Ireland do not cease automatically with a future agreement on UK-EU relations. Conditions apply.

Interesting point of procedure raised by Varadkar:

"it's not the case [that] there is going to be some sort of compromise cobbled together late at night at the EU council meeting in October. [It] is not a negotiating meeting, the UK will not be there..."
“… so any agreement will have to be concluded between the UK on the one hand and the EU taskforce on the other. And I don't see any benefit for the United Kingdom in putting things off”
UK PM does not attend European Council (Art. 50) meetings and EU27 have structured and managed process to date to keep discussion of Brexit off the agenda of full European Council meetings.

It means that haulage company may decide to invest heavily in the Republic to continue to serve its customers - which means some of their 200 employees in the North are likely to lose their jobs. They will also pay more of their taxes in Dublin, not to the Exchequer in London./3

"#Brexit and EU agencies", our extensive look into third country relationships of the 36 EU agencies and how the UK might fit in.

Albeit largely technical, agencies will have huge implications on Brexit.

Five points stand out in particular:
First, Agencies matter. Like the customs union, they are a technical aspect of the EU, that works and was thus hardly discussed in the UK before #Brexit.
But they are important for single market, but also justice and home affairs.

UK gov thus has already asked to continue participation in selected agencies, in particular in sectors important to the UK economy, like aviation, chemicals or pharma.
