Let's have a quick word about the Tories, pensions and Scotland.

IDS has proposed that the retirement age is raised to 75. His thinking is that this is the only way to "afford" the actual worst pension in Europe or the G7.

This map shows life expectancy across the UK. Lighter colours are lower life expectancy. The lightest blue you can see is 75-80 - the age bracket that would see the shortest retirement before death.
Except that working longer would lead to more stress on the body and, therefore, lower life expectancy - so those in the light blue would have a very, very short retirement.

Think of the saving when most of Scotland and Wales get maybe a year's pension at best!

Secondly, Britain and the US are both members of the Five Eyes security alliance. Trump's administration would have shared their intel on #Huawei with the UK.

It is very telling that Britain did not buy in to Trump's anti-Huawei narrative that it poses a #security risk.

Trump's position was already undermined when he had said that @Huawei could be part of a trade deal with #China - apparently ignoring the "fact" that it is a #security risk. If it was such a risk, it would never be allowed to trade in the US. 3/8

This perpetual “Threats from China” monologue is utterly ridiculous and grounded in something nasty. Leaving aside the likes of British Defence Secretary @GavinWilliamson who won’t be happy until he starts a war with China, there is a vogue for constructing an economic threat.
To me, this is incredibly lazy thinking and it is worrying hearing it being espoused by thought leaders. The Governor of the Bank of England has just delivered a speech about the ‘threat’.
Of course, it fits a convenient narrative of having an “enemy” to blame which seems important in the current political landscape but what if we decided to think differently? What is we told the political leaders that it’s lazy and destructive and we changed the narrative?

The amount of people who are totally at ease with a #NoDealBrexit is worrying. We should all be very concerned about no-deal. It’s the one outcome that really has guarantees, and they’re not positives at all.

I’ll try my best to be as clear as I can. /1
2/ Firstly, There’s a misunderstanding that we can carry trade as usual under WTO for next few years under no-deal. This is wrong as the Article 24 that does this does not apply to a nation coming OUT of a free trade agreement.
3/ “Trade experts say this covers the circumstances of two countries forming a new trade agreement, not of them leaving one.
WTO #Article24 DOES NOT oblige the EU to continue providing the full benefits of the single market for the next ten years...
