2 kids in my son’s California class last year were identified to us as trans. My son was 5 last year. No I’m not joking. In both cases it was 100% driven by parents, 1 even told my son he didn’t want to pretend to be a girl anymore, he knew he was a boy. Lots to unpack here.
The year before this at a DIFFERENT public school in California my son had a male assistant teacher who dressed in some female clothes, bright purple lipstick and his nails done. My son was 4 in that class & the teacher was fired for other reasons before we could change schools.
It’s a wonder my son wasn’t confused by gender given the confusing world he was around in California. In our neighborhood we had 2 boys my son played with who began wearing girls clothes to the park. Forced by their celeb mom. Both said they hated it & developed emotional issues.
My oldest plays every sport & she’s a star athlete. For the first time during soccer an opponent had a trans player. After my daughter scored the kid maliciously tackled her much harder than a girl could & gave her the biggest bruise she’s ever had. Welcome to tolerance!
I say all this to point out that it’s a very confusing time in California right now. There’s a unique phenomenon occurring around gender and it’s not all rainbows & unicorns. Some kids are being used as pawns by crazy parents for attention and some kids are hurt in the process.
Thankful my kids live in a less stressful environment now that we live in Tennessee. It’s the best decision we’ve made. They’re the most joyful & confident I’ve ever seen them. Kindness is plentiful here while political & social issues were plentiful in CA. I don’t miss it.
