There was always a very strange asymmetry to the Brexit referendum, because the "Remain" outcome could have been implemented at no effort or cost (other than that incurred during the referendum itself, of course) the instant the result was announced at 4:40am.
So by the time people sat down to breakfast on the day after the referendum, Brexit would have been done and dusted (bar Eurosceptics and UKIP-types raring to have another crack at it).

And we could have moved on to more important things like fixing the NHS, social care etc.
Who knows, maybe we would have still been the 5th richest country in the world, rather than the 6th...

Uh-oh. More evidence that the Government is lying to us. Docs leaked to the FT suggest there will be problems at ports all over the country, not just in Kent, but they will be "managed" by preventing vehicles getting as far as the ports in the first place.

Some queues could end up being 90 miles long. But it's all good, because we'll have fulfilled our dream of being out of the EU.
And of course it will all be the hauliers' fault. As a DfT spokesman said: "If hauliers have the correct documentation, there should be limited disruption at the border"

Never has an "if" done so much heavy lifting, and blame shifting...

This is a beautiful summary of where we are. Boris Johnson's ducked his news conference because of the protests. But it took place anyway.
Not only that, but the protesters cheered the PM of Luxembourg a number of times throughout as he hit points they liked.
"Our people need to know what is going to happen to them in 6 weeks time. They need clarity, they need certainty, and they need stability. You can't hold our future hostage for party political gains." [big cheer]

Here's what I have trouble grasping, 3 years down the line.

What do Leavers think Remainers are fighting for? Do they *really* believe we're just sore losers, as if the referendum was a football match that went the other way and we're still arguing a call?

That's just daft.
Deep down, this illustrates the gulf between Leave and Remain. Leavers are fighting for something abstract. Remainers are fighting to keep jobs and save businesses, and defend themselves (or family/friends/colleagues/neighbours) from a hostile immigration environment.
More specifically, Remainers are worried about...
- Short-term economic shock
- Long-term economic damage
- Job losses
- Loss of existing trade deals
- Collapse of the pound
- Lower direct investment
- Destruction of UK manufacturing sector
- Rising cost of living

Yes investigations are carried out by the EC, but not solely. The Government could, to take an example completely at random, choose to launch a public inquiry based on the conclusions of an investigation by the Electoral Commission. If it chose.
3/ Yes, we know. That's the point of the petition, to ask you to make plans. There would be no point petitioning you to do something you are already doing, would there?

First of all, the most obvious thing: Corbyn did this move not only because of a new Brexit strategy but above all because of a party strategy: the hemorrhage of moderate or outraged MPs had to be stopped somehow. The Independent group surely was concerning him. We’ll see.
Sure this move won’t stop the MPs shocked by the accusations of antisemitism, but it might have a good impact on the europhile ones. The new mantra is clear: until the choice is between May’s deal and No Deal, the new Labour weapon is a new, 2nd referendum.
