Good evening from the North Carolina Senate, where they’re planning to vote on new maps to replace the ones rules unconstitutional earlier this month

The maps passed committee nearly unanimously but this larger vote might be more controversial; we shall see in a few #ncpol #ncga
In case you were doing something last Friday night *other* than following the redistricting process like us cool kids, here's my article from when the House passed their own maps #ncpol #ncga newsobserver.com/news/politics-…
Republican @RalphHise says the map/process "meets all the criteria the court has laid out and, quite frankly, should be a national model"

Democrat @DanBlueNC agrees: "I think it was a remarkable experience especially when you consider the current political climate" #ncpol #ncga
@RalphHise @DanBlueNC Despite Sen. Blue vouching for the maps, it appears some Democrats plan to vote No

@ElectSamSearcy has tweeted his opposition, and @JeffJacksonNC just said he opposes any politicians drawing maps--even though "Honestly, my expectations were dramatically exceeded" #ncpol #ncga
@RalphHise @DanBlueNC @ElectSamSearcy @JeffJacksonNC .@JeffJacksonNC got what seemed to me like a bit of a back-handed comment, on the redistricting process, directed to Republican leaders: "You did appear to me to be acting in good faith. And that's remarkable in North Carolina, and you deserve recognition for that" #ncpol #ncga
@RalphHise @DanBlueNC @ElectSamSearcy @JeffJacksonNC Sen. @MichaelKGarrett (who was I think was the lone vote against the Senate maps in committee): "The bias toward self-preservation can't be taken out of this process because self-preservation is a human trait. And despite what some people might think of us, we are human." #ncpol
@RalphHise @DanBlueNC @ElectSamSearcy @JeffJacksonNC @MichaelKGarrett Garrett was unhappy during committee with the way High Point looks in these new maps, and wanted to change his district. But that didn't happen.

Sen. Blue addressed that earlier, saying their hands were tied by the court, which forbade them from touching some Guilford precincts
