“The idea that unless you can actually trace your family directly to a slave that you haven’t been subject to the legacy of slavery is a bunch of hogwash.”

This is ignorance. Let me explain.... washingtonpost.com/national/which…
1/ Any “brown” person may face discrimination, but the cost of AMERICAN slavery, & the multigenerational oppression that followed, is a cost paid by #ADOS, not Blacks in general. It’s “hogwash” to not understand that
2/And this is why #ADOS seeds took root & the seeds of Pan Africanists pushing for reparations died. It never made any sense to give reparations to Black people who didn’t bear the very real, quantifiable cost of slavery & accrued disadvantage. It’s stupid.
3/ #ADOS did in 2 years what this activist hasn’t managed to do in 30; make reparations a *real* issue that both political parties have had to address in one way or another. We did that. You don’t get to fail for 30 years, then offer a harsh critique of a group that’s succeeding
4/ It’s common sense, or at least it should be, that a Black immigrant who VOLUNTARILY EMIGRATED to America last year, or 50 years ago, is not entitled to damages from systemic oppression dating back to slavery.
5/ And did I mention that #ADOS built the country? Not anyone else. Black immigrants can/should be allies. We’ve always welcomed them. But they don’t get to just slide into our justice claim because they’re black too. That’s not how any of this works.
6/ The truth no one wants to face is that Black & Brown immigrants have already gotten a gift from #ADOS. We’ve fought in every war & endured 400 years of discrimination. Our freedom struggle made this country far more hospitable to Black & Brown immigrants & their ambitions.
