The email-servering of Joe Biden has begun, and abetted by members of his own party who won't draw a line for him. washingtonpost.com/politics/trump…
As with the emails, the point is not that stories about Hunter Biden should be off limits. It's that we have one election, and it will be between candidates, and it is up to journalists to provide the public an accurate sense of the stakes.
I mean, I forget, does Trump have offspring? Have they done anything that might "cast shadows" over his campaign or whatever?
If Democrats are likely to nominate someone with a misbehaved son, and that might worry voters, maybe the fact that the president runs a crime syndicate with his children should occupy a larger proportion of the media landscape? Who can say, I guess.
A model of professionalism in this regard is @ddale8 who fact checks all prominent politicians without predetermining that he must lend equal time to covering both parties lies, because as an empirical matter Trump and his troop are wildly more dishonest than Democrats.
There will be no way for outlets to cover the 2020 election in a way that's faithful to reality if they determine in advance that both candidates have "scandals" that must be covered in equal measure.
Trump is just, fundamentally, a predatory person who is more dishonest and corrupt than anyone who might win the Dem nomination. That's reality. Presenting it any other way is bias, from people who falsely cloak themselves in the language of neutrality.
