The new coalition party "#Ethiopian Prosperity Party" (#EPP), "የኢትዮጵያ የብልፅግና ፓርቲ" (#ኢብፓ) formed by PM #Abiy raises a lot of questions than answers about Abiy's ability to lead.

See below list of sensible questions that are worth digesting. 1/7

1) #Abiy has been, and still is, doing anything he wants under the #EPRDF umbrella. So, why form a new party now considering the upcoming election is just round the corner? Surely, he cannot say that #EPP has all the logistics in place to be a competitive democratic party. 2/7

2) Is it really #Abiy's own decision/choice to form #EPP or there are lobbyists influencing in the background? If the latter, who are they & what are they after?

3) What is going to happen with #TPLF e.g. is Abiy going to now have different means & power to challenge TPLF? 3/7

4) What is going to happen to the current operational constitution? Is #Abiy going to amend it before the upcoming election which is just round the corner? If so, to what extent? If not, what will be Abiy's governing toolkit? 4/7

5) Could this be the final moment that #TPLF has been waiting for in terms going hard on #Abiy unreservedly i.e. could this be the end of playing political correctness by TPLF as far as saving/protecting #EPRDF is concerned? If so, what could TPLF possibly do? 5/7

6) If #TPLF forms a new coalition then it is likely that they are going to be a fierce challenger for #EPP so what is #Abiy's strategy going to be to stay in power.

7) Would the formation of #EPP exacerbate or calm the ongoing crisis in #Ethiopia?

My view:

It isn't a wise move by #Abiy - the timing is so wrong. It's likely to exacerbate the ongoing crisis in #Ethiopia. No need for Abiy to try to start from the scratch, especially during critical times - currently, he isn't struggling to run the country satisfactorily. 7/7
