Let me debunk some myths created by the 3D rendering of the #AddisAbaba riverside project
Myth1. Tourism-#Ethiopia's competitive advantage in the sector isn't waterfront devt. Any sane tourist interested in waterfront devt prefers to go to Shibuya Stream, Tokyo or Tampa 1/10
Riverwalk, Florida or V&A Waterfront in Cape Town. Our tourism competitive advantage is in historical sites, landscape & wildlife. let's invest in our heritage & parks.
Myth2.Tourism-related jobs-of course the construction & the est. of business around it will create jobs. 2/10
However, the jobs created compared to the total amount spent is minuscule. Had we invested a similar amount in agro-processing parks, it would have solved huge unemployment & helped 2transform our agrarian economy.
Myth3. Diplomatic Capital-yes #AddisAbaba hosts AU & ECA 3/10

#Muslims r one of the most financially excluded citizens in #Ethiopia & their primarily reason is #Riba. But I wonder how & where the data for such reports are collected? "Financial inclusion in Ethiopia: 10 takeaways from the latest Findex" tinyurl.com/ydhmd738 via @WorldBank
Citizens who identify themselves as #Muslims account for 34% of the #Ethiopia'n population (CSA, 2007). This large segment of the society was demanding Shari'ah Compliant #finance for long time. Banks first responded by introducing 0% interest A/C #financialinclusion @WorldBank
Banks attracted millions of customers and mobilized billions of Birr in deposits. Sadly, customers were unaware that these deposits are not #ShariahCompliant and they were subjected to successive devaluations which has impacted them a lot. #financialinclusion #Ethiopia @WorldBank

#Ethiopia: "Identity politics is, I submit, a secular variation to the religious notion of worshiping the wrong idols. It usually emerges from the place of arrogance, deceit and resentment and is fundamentally driven by a toxic sense of victimhood." Kebadu Mekonnen, (PhD)
#Ethiopia: "For a republic worthy of its name to emerge and a genuine civic solidarity to take root in Ethiopia, I believe that we need a constitutional amendment prohibiting the founding of political parties on the basis of ethnicity or religion," Kebadu Mekonnen, (PhD)

Breaking: #Ethiopian investment board lifts restrictions on logistics industry reserved exclusively for Ethiopians, opens sector for joint venture addisstandard.com/breaking-ethio… decision will allow JV participation of international logistics service providers holding up to 49% or less
Art.3.1(b) of Ethiopia's Investment Regulation states that “packaging, forwarding & shipping agency services” are “exclusively reserved for Ethiopians.” Today's decision reversed that regulation & opened sector for international logistics service providers as minority share
"Today’s decision tops any of the policy shifts introduced recently since PM #AbiyAhmed came to office. A 27 year old closed sector-logistics is now open for JV arrangements. A great move towards improving competitiveness of Ethiopia in manufacturing for export.” @BelachewM

Farmers have been consistently traveling for kms to complain to the relevant S. Ari Woreda admin of the deterioration of their farm lands located adjacent to the road construction due to debris from heavy digging as well as the exposure of their lands to flooding & soil erosion.
This photo taken from Metser shows the dense mixtures of plants including coffee, false banana & yam & others. In the area affected by the urbanization everything in the picture above was indiscriminately cut by a group of people who claimed they were assigned by the local admin
