NEWS: Judicial Watch obtains 2-page memo by then-FBI Director Andrew McCabe memorializing the meeting where then-Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein offered to wear a wire to record President Donald Trump. (According to Rosenstein, the offer was made in jest.)

Also present at the meeting: Deputy Assistant AG for Intelligence Tashina Gauhar and Principal Associate Deputy Attorney General Jim Crowell.

The meeting took place in McCabe's office one day before Rosenstein appointed Mueller as the special counsel.

At the meeting, McCabe told Rosenstein that he had opened an investigation into President Donald Trump. Note the timing:

5/16 -- McCabe opens probe of president
5/17 -- Rosenstein appoints Mueller, pushing McCabe out

In the event he was fired before appointing a special counsel, Rosenstein delegated the appointment of a special counsel to AAAG Dana Boente.

Notably, in a statement earlier this year, the DOJ said that "the deputy attorney general [Rosenstein] in fact appointed special counsel Robert Mueller, and directed that Mr. McCabe be removed from any participation in that investigation.”
