Your use-case surely is quite niche!

to choose a party I can trust,
and use them wholly, to resolve!

I shall not use a VPN!
I cannot use a DoT!
The TLS I need will then
secure my DoH for me!

I am somewhat horrified by this; here in the privileged west we are openly amazed at countries which "turn off the internet when there are school exams", yet our key infosec luminaries propose rate limiting as acceptable mitigations towards "fake news"
As claimed by one proponent, this paper purports to take us beyond speculation of how rate-limiting might affect online group-chats and communities; yes, but reading it I see no discussion of how online group-chats & communities will adapt to rate limiting
Circumstance restricts behaviour, but also behaviour adapts to circumstance; to go all Jeff Goldblum for a moment: "life, or communication, will find a way" - if you work in a platform anti-abuse team you will see it's a war of attrition as both bad-and-good people adapt.

@neil_neilzone 1/ I'm with you, but I am also not with you; literally, it's a matter where I am torn, and where (I suspect) the answer requires to be drilled into the browser.

The problem is (as-ever) an all-or-nothing digital question: do you want to respect the end-to-end principle?
@neil_neilzone 2/ You & I are both fans of Onion addressing, and in that we know that there is no DNS step at all — but do you fret about applications calling-out to Onion addresses? Probably not, because they (a) are rare and (b) generally are used to OFFER the capability of disintermediation.
@neil_neilzone 3/ Part of the value proposition of Onion addresses is that third parties (including you) cannot fiddle with them; but then why should we not extend this capability to DNS? Make DNS both authoritative and tamperproof?

Well, that's what you're railing against, now.

(1/4) On #cloud technology and #climatechange...the narrative around cloud is about business agility and modernization. That's fine, let's do that. A more compelling reason is to reduce the power consumption of all those corp data centers.
(2/4) We are in a #climatecrisis. Crisis means, extraordinary action is needed. IT professionals have three responsibilities because business as usual does not cut it.

Thread, to a reporter, about #Cloudflare dropping 8chan: what effect would it likely have, and in which layers of the Net should accountability live? Short version: Decisions matter even if they don’t have a simple effect, and our ideas about responsibility are changing. 1/16
I think in the short term, both guesses are probably right: CloudFlare’s decision certainly doesn’t end 8chan, it will probably rematerialize in some form elsewhere; AND there will probably be some attrition of users, who either don’t find the new site or don’t want to. 2/16
But I do think we can get too focused on whether a single decision will or will not have a definitive effect, and we overlook the cumulative and the symbolic value of a decision like Cloudflare’s. 3/16

Now that the #netneutrality vote has happened, here are my rules as a #consumer and #Customer that I will use to decide who gets my dollar bills.

1>$ I will be subscribing to the services and providers who voluntarily maintain the closest model of #netneutrality.

If @Comcast starts charging for prioritized services, I will not only opt for the cheapest and most basic plan possible...
2>$ ...I will move to any other #ISP that maintains fair and open access. I will move to a new neighborhood if I must.

I can go back to cellular or satellite internet, or 1995-style #dialup if it means supporting fair and open access providers. 96kb #ISDN? I'm lovin it.
