@ScottMorrisonMP is very comfortable lying to the australian people, but today he looked world leaders directly in the eye and lied to them. 🤥

morrison claimed “australia is taking real action on climate change and getting results”

in fact, australia’s CO₂ emissions are rising and the government has no credible plan to reduce them.

@ScottMorrisonMP claims “australia is doing our bit on climate change and we reject any suggestion to the contrary.”
.@ScottMorrisonMP is contesting the fact that australia is absolutely *failing* to deliver our share of reducing emissions.

he is lying to all of us.

his government’s “climate solutions package” has australia emitting no less in 2030 than we do presently.
based on the government’s own numbers, the current policies will *not* deliver on the commitment @tonyabbott made to the international community in 2015 to reduce emissions by 26-28% on 2005 levels.
worse, @ScottMorrisonMP is planning to use an accountant trick to reduce our commitment by 52%.

global leaders need to stand up to this.
.@ScottMorrisonMP boasts of australia’s strong renewables investment in 2018, omitting to mention that investment in 2013, ‘14, ‘15 was decimated by the coalition’s efforts to kill the renewable sector.

the goverment succeeded in killing 40% of the RET’s development pipeline.
no sitting member of parliament worked harder to kill off the renewables sector than @AngusTaylorMP — then a backbencher, but cynically appointed by @ScottMorrisonMP last august to be the federal minister for energy and emissions reduction.
australia’s current renewables boom is partly due to the catch up after the years of federal policy instability and partly due to leadership by ACT and VIC, both of which have come under sustained criticism by the federal government for their action.
back to the UN, @murpharoo writes that @ScottMorrisonMP “did not tell the general assembly that emissions across the economy are rising in australia, and have risen every year since the coalition abolished the carbon price” [in 2014].
in reference to @GretaThunberg’s moving speech, @ScottMorrisonMP offered the bland and condescending response:

“we should let our kids be kids – teenagers be teenagers – while we work positively together to deliver practical solutions for them and their future”
.@ScottMorrisonMP has *less* than nothing to show on climate policy — he has a sham policy and no intention to deliver a positive future for greta, my kids, your kids nor his own kids.
i’ll let @GretaThunberg have the last word:

“how dare you continue to look away and come here saying you are doing enough.”
