It's fair to ponder how history will judge Trump's GOP enablers, but don't forget to judge them in the present. If Trump isn't removed or constrained, 2020 will not be an honest election. He proved it. My op-ed: nydailynews.com/opinion/ny-ope…

Erdogan's "ceasefire" will be as valid as Putin's in Ukraine and Assad's in Syria. Lip service to the international community to gain time to slaughter his enemies. Then, the peace of the grave.
Dictators use force and then demand diplomacy. Putin sent fighter jets to Syria while Obama sent John Kerry. Erdogan will massacre while Trump babbles and says everything is fine. Business as usual.
And of course he's already ignored it. No points for predicting something so obvious. Erdogan's attack is a classic "why not?" maneuver. The question is why the US president is endorsing it and ethnic cleansing.

Senator, you cannot evade accountability for your inaction by attacking the Democrats. The main reason they think they can win with a radical agenda is because you & the GOP are supporting a criminal. You can end this.
Replacing Trump would immediately shift the 2020 landscape on both sides of the aisle. The Dems wouldn't be able to treat the general election as a given (which is foolish anyway). The GOP could have a candidate who represents America instead of himself.
If a Dem with a socialist agenda takes the White House from Trump, the GOP Senators who are defending Trump's criminality & unfitness will also be culpable. They are empowering the extremes on both sides, as always happens. It's cowardice at best.

Good to see there's at least one NBA player who puts human rights first: @EnesKanter! As for the rest, if you're going to claim ignorance or "stick to sports," that is your right. But if you open your mouth to defend a brutal regime, be prepared to defend those views, if you can.
I spent most of my life fighting at the chessboard & against dictatorship at the same time. It's not for everyone, and I don't like to pressure athletes for boycotts, etc. But if you openly side with authoritarians, you abandon the pretense of innocence & neutrality.
As happened with Russian corruption in Europe, US economic engagement with China has opened up the floodgates of Chinese influence without liberalizing their regime at all. US companies eagerly toe Beijing's line for cash, ignoring where this always leads.

There's no denying that #impeachment talk has accelerated over the past few months. But I'm not convinced that this past week was really such a Rubicon when considered in broader perspective, or that a handful of well-argued essays in liberal magazines are the drivers of change.
