This poll is v bad news for Pres Trump. It’s not that the public is overwhelmingly against him. But off the bat public opinion has shifted significantly. A clear majority of Americans back the Impeachment. cbsnews.com/news/trump-imp…
2/ You need an overwhelming majority of public sentiment to remove a President from office. But these numbers suggest Republicans will have a serious challenge making impeachment a liability for Democrats.
3/ On the different question of whether Trump shld actually be impeached a plurality say yes. But probably more important is that another 22% want to reserve judgement. So a big majority either supports or is open to impeaching the President. 
4/ Unsurprisingly Democrats and Republicans see the matter very differently. But independents are evenly split. Again, not a good place for Trump to start.
5/ To be clear, none of this means that Trump is toast. What it suggests strongly is that the news of the last ten days has moved the country significantly. With a majority supporting an impeachment inquiry the idea that this will hurt Democrats seems much less plausible.
