Something hit me today about my wearable computer.

Now, first thing is, I assembled my rig entirely out of consumer-ready, plug-and-play devices. It's all off the shelf technology, just used for slightly skewed use cases.
Because I'm not using any piece of it, really, for 100% the intended purpose, it bucks the trend for most wearable tech in that it doesn't meaningfully increase surveillance.
When Silicon Valley makes a wearable display for personal computing, it's going to incorporate a camera, which brings with it a host of privacy concerns.

Hence why Google Glass noped out of the consumer market, and no one else really stepped up after that.
The monitor for my wearable computer set-up is a @Vufine, which is primarily meant to be the viewfinder *for* a camera. If you don't plug it into a camera, it has no surveillance abilities. It's just a display device.
@vufine My CPU is a pocket PC, a little HDMI stick that is a bit like an off-brand Fire TV that runs Windows 10.

It's meant to be *portable*, not *mobile*, so you can take your computer between hotel rooms, home, office, etc., and save bulk.

No cellular capabilities.
@vufine I can plug a cellular device into it to get data service, but if I for instance use my cellphone, I'm not adding to my surveillance signature, and if I don't... I still have a fully functional Windows computer I can use offline, anywhere, without leaving any bread crumbs.
@vufine It's a fully operational Windows computer that can I take anywhere, use anywhere, and it's not connected to a cellular network, doesn't have cameras or microphones, doesn't have GPS.

My goal wasn't to lower my digital profile, but it's kind of neat to realize that's an effect?
@vufine My goal was simply to create a virtual office where I can sit (or stand, or recline, or flop down) anywhere and have the same working environment, with an ancillary goal of making up for how disappointing "wearable computers" have been.
@vufine Anyway. It's just interesting to me, given how many cyberpunk references my set-up garners, that I'm actually less connected when I walk around using it than when I'm walking around using my phone that's pretty ubiquitous.
