Turkey will be invading Syria shortly and US forces will be getting out of the way, apparently abandoning the US’s Kurdish allies in Syria, per WH statement.
WH: Turkey “will now be responsible” for ISIS captives, who are *checks notes* currently held by Syrian Kurdish forces.
I’m not doing a good job conveying how fucked up this is.

If you're a nerd like me, you can go through Hinds' Precedents and find 1800s vintage cases where judges and cabinet secretaries (albeit not presidents, afaik) facing impeachment were allowed to appear at House hearings and sometimes question witnesses. govinfo.gov/content/pkg/GP…
However--and this is the crucial point--you can also look through Hinds Precedents and find lots of cases where the House conducted its investigation of similar officials entirely ex parte, without any involvement by the accused.
Both ways of doing impeachment investigations are valid. Why? Because the Constitution says the House gets to determine the rules of its proceedings.

They got so banged up by one fact witness and his record of texts that they have to escalate and abandon their bluff on the vote, is one interpretation of this news.
The vigorous exchange of letters and the House counsel’s name being Letter has confused me more than once today.

Sounds to me like we're pulling out of Syria and have reached an agreement to stay out of whatever Turkey plans to do there in exchange for them taking the captured ISIS fighters that Europe refuses to. Allowing the Middle East to handle its own business.
