as someone who has watched a lot - too much - fox news in my lifetime, lemme tell you that having laura ingraham open her show with 22 mins of rudy giuliani and joe digenova is precisely opposite the type of content roger ailes envisioned.
ailes idea was for a flashy, bombastic venue to make conservatism look good and cool in contrast to (his pov) boring liberalism in the msm. this instead is just boring conspiracies for old people. its bad tv.
this locks in the 2-3 million diehard fox viewers but does zero to attract the attention of the wavering voter flipping past (this is the person ailes wanted to attract with leggy blonde anchors and enticing graphics)
maybe i need to expand on this, but the idea of fox is to stovepipe stuff to put democrats on defense and keep gop on offense - the perfect scenario was the 2004 election - nowadays much of fox content, outside of the con base, can simply be dismissed.
the idea is - fox says "omg new development about dems" and the msm says "oh look, everyone on fox is talking about this, it must be real, lets talk about it too." instead now its hannity ranting for an hour and msm just goes "ok, thats on fox."
