when you understand that trump makes serious policy and personnel decisions based on how something looks "like central casting" a white house event on immigration like this makes sense. 
i get frustrated sometimes cause people try to apply all this deep thinking to trump when its super surface level. "my base wants secure border, get me lawman with big cowboy hat to say border secure, they will love me." that's all it is.
like the democratic equivalent would be someone who thought she was addressing lgbt rights by having rupaul give a white house briefing in full drag, or something like that
(not that i would be 100% opposed to that at this point, tbh. "congress better werkkkkkkkk")
