I'd love to hear others' thoughts on how a military background helps/hurts people in public service. I used to see former officers as a bulwark against people like Trump, but increasingly it seems like mil experience just primes people to "follow orders" (eg Powell/UN/Iraq)...
... In the same vein, a friend told me last night that her 20yo Marine son is 100% in the tank for Trump. Emotionally, his allegiance isn't genetically to his commander-in-chief, but specifically and personally to Donald Trump, bec. the Marines "brainwash them." ...
That seems dangerous: wouldn't a Marine who does his duty out of personal attachment to a president risk becoming a Marine who DOESN'T do his duty when he becomes personally DISAFFECTED with a prez? I'd think DISCOURAGING political homogeneity would yield a more reliable force.
