On what to do with offense:

I personally find men “identifying” into the class they have oppressed for most of human history to be insulting & wrong. But that is my opinion, & they have the right to dress as they choose, speak how they choose, use a feminine name if they want.1/
They have the right to offend me. I’ll defend their right to offend me, because I offend a hell of a lot of people myself. I understand that MY offense is no more or less important than theirs. Our focus must be on the preservation of rights, not the imposition of perspective. 2/
I support the human rights of trans people not because I share their philosophy of living “as” a sex you weren’t born to, but because they’re human beings who don’t forfeit their basic rights the minute their choices conflict with my values. 3/
Along those lines, MY human rights don’t become forfeit the moment they become inconvenient for a social group with more power than mine. And their WANTS don’t ever get to supercede my NEEDS.

Example: Living without sexual trauma is a need. Getting your junk waxed is a want. 4/
Being able to use a public bathroom without the threat to physical safety and basic dignity posed by the presence of adult males is a NEED, while being affirmed by “gender congruent” facilities, rather than safe 3rd space/single occupancy facilities is a WANT. 5/
I am not here because of the ideological issues I have with the gender movement. I’m a lesbian who attended 12 years of Christian school, ffs. I know how to deal with offense. And I advocated for trans rights well after they began to offend me.

No. I’m here for my rights. 6/6
