I spent a lot of time today engaging with people who had feelings about the thread that blew up yesterday. I had a good conversation with Argyris here that started to get at some of the nuances. (We're done for now though, so please don't reply there)

But there's something I want to say here. It's a point I've made many times in many different contexts. But the root of it is universal. To my knowledge, no big systemic problem has *ever* been solved by people being "nice" or "constructive".
I understand the urge to keep things "civil". I understand the urge to try to prevent people from feeling bad about things. I'm any normal situation those are *good" instincts to have. The challenge is knowing when you are not in a normal situation. And those things won't work.
I receive a lot of critique about my methods on here. Believe it or not, I do listen, and I try to continually reflect on my decisions. But it's important for people to understand that I'm not treating this like a normal situation. It is dire, and we should be up in arms
