Big news! A federal court just blocked the poll tax that Florida Republicans passed earlier this year to disenfranchise up to 1.1 million voters who have served out their prison, parole, or probation sentences. Background here: dailykos.com/story/2019/6/2…
The court barred election officials from taking any action that would prevent the plaintiffs from registering to vote "based only on failure to pay a financial obligation that the plaintiff asserts the plaintiff is genuinely unable to pay."

Note that this ruling is hardly a complete victory against the GOP's poll tax, but it's still much better than a defeat. Those who can show they're unable to pay have an avenue to regain their right to vote
