Jason Kenney and the UCP are using the argument that Alberta is paying more for things like healthcare and education than other provinces. They say salaries are too high here in comparison. #AbLeg #cdnpoli 1/5
They don't want people to realise that the cost of living is also higher in Alberta than in other provinces. For teachers and nurses and so on to have the same standard of living as their counterparts in other provinces, they must make more money. 2/5
You can't make an equivalency between the cost of living in AB and MB, for example, and then say Alberta teachers should be paid what MB teachers are paid. There would be a lot of Albertan teachers who could no longer afford their homes. 3/5

Expecting Alberta public service professionals to live on the same salary as their counterparts in Quebec City or Moncton or Charlottetown is willful avoidance of the realities of differing economies across the country. 4/5
It is disingenuous, intended to justify unacceptable, ideologically-driven cuts. It has to be ideologically-driven, because there is no way to use evidence and logic to rationalise the UCP stance. 5/5
